Wonder Woman vs. Breast Cancer

New Breast Cancer PSA is being rolled out and it has some familiar, uh..., faces.

You can see and read more here:

These ads are appearing in Mozambique and were drawn by Maisa Chaves.

Pretty clever I thought.

Wonder Woman #1

Wonder Woman #1 of the new DCU 52 was released today.

The story so far is good.  Dealing with the sort of things that are good for a WW story; innocents, meddling Greek Gods and fighting monsters.   I don't want anyone to take this the wrong way, and I mean this in the most positive way, that story is somewhat like a Xena story.  I won't spoil it for you, but it deals with Diana needing to protect a woman and how this woman is the center of infighting between the gods.

Though unlike Xena or even the myths they are both based on, this issue up the ante a bit.

So far I like it and want to see more.

The art is fantastic and Wondy is looking great here.

On Sale Tomorrow

Wonder Woman #1 from the new new DCU.

DC Women Kicking Ass has a four page preview.

I am going to get this tomorrow because buying it on the day it is released sends a stronger message than just picking it up later.

Of course after that then the story has to keep me interested to get me to #2.

Wonder Woman Pilot

Hello all,

I do not tend to use bit torrent much, but one of our readers passed on a link to the Wonder Woman pilot episode. I have not checked this out, so proceed with appropriate caution. In my experience, Bit Torrent is a big security hole, but at times it is a semi-necessary risk. I included the entire URL as some of your more torrent friendly might know if isohunt is relatively safe or notorious for virus/security issues before following the link.

http://isohunt.com/torrent_details/324234045/wonder+woman?tab=summary

Just figured I'd pass the link along. Do what thou wilt.

Wonder Woman through the Years

Wonder Woman in a variety of styles from over the course of her life-span from 1941 to 2008.

It was fun trying to identify the various styles, like Perez, Cooke and Timm as well as Carter and Rigby.  Even the "Superfriends" version is there.

The watermark say raycaspio.com and you can see all of his Wonder Woman art at http://www.raycaspio.com/blog/category/wonder-woman

Wonder Woman TV Series Clip

Making the rounds today, a clip from the almost-was Wonder Woman.

I still would have watched it.

Nicki Minaj as Wonder Woman

Yesterday all I could have told you about Nicki Minaj is that she has a Lil'Kim/Lady Gaga thing going on. Well, thanks to Tumblr I have a bit more respect for her. Definite points for being the Amazon. The Star Trek reference doesn't hurt things either.

Wonder Woman on Batman Brave and the Bold!!

If you get a chance, check out the new episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold. While the episode of the cartoon features Batman and Green Lantern fighting Star Sapphire, in "Scorn of the Star Sapphire" Wonder Woman makes her debut in the 3 minute teaser at the beginning of the show. I found it extremely fun as it is both a nod to her silver age persona and very well executed. In the hopes of encouraging you all to check your local TV networks for when "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" airs so you can catch Wonder Woman in "Scorn of the Star Sapphire" I posted the above picture from the episode. If this plays out as it usually does with this show, we can expect a later episode that features Wonder Woman working with Batman. In lieu of a live action TV Show it isn't much, but I found it to be 3 minutes of Wonder filled bliss. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

A glimpse of what's to come....

DC reboots 52 new titles in September, including an all-new Wonder Woman#01 and a JLA #1 with Wonder Woman in the line-up. Here's a look at her new costume drawn by Jim Lee. Looks like she gets to keep her pants--yay!!

Variety: "Wonder Woman Pilot Deserves a Second Look"

Interesting article from Variety on the cancellation of the "Wonder Woman" series. [link]

"What Kelley did with the pilot, rather shrewdly, was completely avoid the whole traditional superhero origin story. Instead, he begins in a world where there's somebody known as Wonder Woman -- a widely known vigilante hero -- who supports her crime-busting endeavors through merchandising deals, including an action figure. The business is run for her by a character played by Cary Elwes, who keeps reminding her that if she wants to thwart evil-doers, she has to sell dolls, too."

That could have worked. Being barred from Themriscyra, there is a question to how does Diana support herself? Certainly that secretarial job for the Air Force wasn't going to make paying bills a non-issue.

Wonder Woman TV Series Canceled

We didn't get a chance to see the pilot, but the new David E. Kelley Wonder Woman series has been canned by NBC.

EW is reporting that the show now will not be on the Fall schedule.

While I was getting less and less hopeful about the script I was planning on watching it and hoped that even a little Wonder Woman on the TV is better than none.

Looks like we are getting none and this will also cool any movie ideas for a bit.

That ain't all, folks!

Ironically there actually was an episode of Justice League Unlimited where Wonder Woman was turned into a pig. I wonder if Petunia here was an inspiration for that one?

Wonder Woman is from the DC Universe Classics toyline and Wonder Pig came from McDonalds many years ago.

Wonder Woman Wednesdays

There seem to be more bloggers getting into a Wonder Woman Wednesday posting.  Here are few I have seen today.

DC Women Kicking Ass rarely need an excuse to post Wonder Woman, but when it is a new Chrisse Zullo, then there is no excuse needed.

Justice League of Amazons

Tuesday was International Woman's Day and I celebrated with a post of some women from DC doing what they do best earlier in the week.  Here is another all female team-up with Wonder Woman and Zatanna (for my regular Zatannuday post).

A couple of pics from the comic "Justice League of Amazons" from 2001.  Typical end of the millennium eco-friendly story about eco-terrorists or something.   It looks like it was an excuse to show off some skin.

Mind you I have nothing against that.

International Woman's Day

Today is International Woman's Day.

While I think that is great thing I have to ask why more than half of the population only gets one day?  Shouldn't women get Spring and Summer and men get Fall and Winter?  Anyway I am not here to debate. William Moulton Marston envisioned a world where women would be more highly regarded than they were in his own time (and even than they are now), but failing that at least we can honor his ideals on this day with a picture of his greatest creations.

Wonder Woman in the Killing Joke (sort of)

Tim: I posted this to my own blog as part of my Zatannurday series of posts, but it also has WW in it so I thought I would share here.

There are pivotal comics in in world.  Ones that change everything.  One such comic is "The Killing Joke".  It is the story of Batman and the Joker. But it is also the story of Barbara Gordon and how everything changed for her in one day.  How Batgirl was no more and paved the way for Oracle.

But take any game changing moment like that and it is ripe for others to want to look at it anew.

The "Brave and the Bold" banner is for various team ups from across the DC line.  One of last year's best was The Brave and the Bold #33, a team up of Z, Wonder Woman and Batgirl (Barbara Gordon).  OR My three top comicbook loves of all time.  Of course it is a powerful piece, but not in the way you expect.

Now I was never a fan of Babylon 5, but I have always sorta liked J. Michael Straczynski as a writer. He has given me reasons not to like him in the past, but this does not disappoint.

It takes place the day before Barbara's shooting and Zatanna has a vision.  We don't know that though.  We just know it Z and WW and they want to take Barbara for a girls night out of dancing.

You can see more here: http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/1855423.html

Obviously if you have not read The Killing Joke then the emotional impact will not be the same, but if you have then...well, you will have to read it for yourself I think.

-- Spoilers --

Honestly that is some pretty powerful stuff there.
Close up, http://www.dadsbigplan.com/2010/04/comic-rack-the-brave-and-the-bold-33/

Here are some reviews I found interesting, each having a slightly different take
http://allthiscrap.blogspot.com/2010/04/brave-and-bold-33-ladies-night-review.html
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=user_review&id=2155
http://acomicbookblog.com/channel/dc-comics-blog/the-brave-and-the-bold-33-review/

I had no problems with Zee and Wonder Woman not being able to help Babs.  Afterall Zatanna doesn't know when it will all happen anyway and she is sure that if she interferes it will only make things worse.  I also don't have an issue with her precognition; she is magical and weird stuff like that happens sometimes.

Kenna Valentina & Caroline Pierce as Wonder Woman and Fan Girl

Came across this on Twitter. Dawnstar Productions, of League of Amazing Women released some production stills of Kenna Valentina and Caroline Pierce for an, I assume, upcoming video of a fan girl meeting Wonder Woman titled The Sincerest Form Of Flattery. I am going to assume this is an adult featurette, as Pierce is not exactly a mainstream model/actress and it appears to be on Clips4Sale. I am unfamiliar with Valentina, but she does make a striking Wonder Woman.
